GeneSight® Testing
GeneSight® Testing
Personalized Insight to Guide Treatment
At New Insights Behavioral Health, we offer GeneSight® pharmacogenetic testing to help identify how your body may respond to different psychiatric medications.
This advanced test uses a simple cheek swab to analyze key genetic markers that can influence how medications are metabolized — providing additional information to support more personalized prescribing decisions.

How It Works
The GeneSight® test looks at specific genes related to medication metabolism and response. Results can help identify which medications may be a better fit and which might be less effective or more likely to cause side effects.
Your provider will:
- Review whether GeneSight® testing is appropriate for you
- Coordinate a sample collection kit be sent to you
- Interpret your genetic results alongside your clinical history, current symptoms, and past medication response
- Use this information to help guide future prescribing decisions
Our Approach
We view pharmacogenetic testing as a helpful adjunct to, not a replacement for, clinical expertise. Medication selection always considers the full picture — your history, symptoms, experiences, and preferences — with genetic data serving as one more layer of insight.
GeneSight® testing can be particularly useful for:
- Patients who have tried multiple medications without good results
- Those who have experienced significant side effects
- Individuals beginning psychiatric treatment for the first time and seeking a more informed starting point
What to Expect
Testing is straightforward and is completed at home with a provided kit. Results are typically available within a few days, and your provider will review them in detail at your follow-up visit, explaining how they may inform treatment choices.
Evidence-Based Guidance, Individualized Care
While no genetic test can predict exactly which medication will work best, GeneSight® can help refine options and reduce trial-and-error in finding the right fit.
At New Insights, we combine this information with careful titration, side-effect monitoring, and clinical judgment to ensure each plan remains safe and effective.
